Lebrecht on Blogging
Norman Lebrecht must appreciate the irony of commentating on a medium, the purpose of which often seems to be to commentate on the kind of commentary that he uses to commentate on that same medium!
The last of his BBC Radio 3 shows is worth listening to, and is online until Sunday at http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio3/lebrechtlive/index.shtml
One thing that Lebrecht doesn’t mention during the programme is this, which I consider perhaps to be the most vital element of blogging: the medium enables an emotional connection to take place, in the same way which traditional media did for selected individuals. This connection facilitates the consumption of whatever the conversation might be about (here, for instance, the violin) and provides readers with a context that expands and enhances their environment and thus receptiveness to whatever is being discussed.
That’s the real power of blogging, I think.
