Simon and David at Classic FM Music Makers launch (Cropped)

David & I took some of the ‘Virtuoso Violin’ show to Classic FM’s new home in Leicester Square in central London, to celebrate the launch of the Classic FM Music Makers charity. At the launch, presented by breakfast presenter Simon Bates, we played a selection of music including Paganini (of course!), and the Duchess of Kent’s Future Talent Charity, Live Music Now, and the Prince of Wales Arts and Kids Foundation were all presented with large donations from Classic FM listeners.

It was really great to see Classic FM from the inside - and indeed meeting some of the faces behind the voices that I’ve been listening to all the way back to when Classic FM launched in 1992, when I was still at school!

Nowadays the station is completely digitized - they don’t even use CDs any more, and the playlists are all completely run by computers in order to regulate how often different pieces of music are played. The studio is like the cockpit of an aeroplane, and there are so many buttons to press and little ‘trails’ and commercials and other features to prepare, that there’s no time for the presenters to listen to the music!
