Simon Hewitt Jones - The Violin Blog

But I hate being told what to do by older people, because it’s often rubbish! Seniority does not always guarantee wisdom… Especially if it is dated experience, closed to change. If my blog ever turns into a satisfied, one dimensional view of the world, then please tell me to wake up!

The best ways I find to learn from those with experience is either to absorb and assimilate, or to react against, or - best of all - to find validation. Or of course a combination of all three.

When you work out, through trial and error, something that really makes sense to you, and then have that same concept suggested by someone with many times more experience than yourself, it is as sure a sign as anything that you’re erring towards an effective decision about something. I think so anyway.
