There was one of these seatback TV systems on the plane, and I watched a video where University of Nebraska students were firing questions at both Gates & Buffett during a special Q&A forum.

Amongst many interesting things, one student asked Bill Gates what he thought about the future direction of video game development. Gates replied that video gaming will reach a point where, like attempts to improve upon Compact Disc technology, there is a point where people won’t usually notice the change in technical quality. You can cram smaller or better technology into the product, but it won’t produce a difference in quality that proportionally better for the average listener.
At that point, the creativity of the game makers becomes more important than the new technological advance of the game game (not that they weren’t already… but it’s easy to get carried away by new innovations). Heard that somewhere before? The message is important, not the medium…
It’s just another example of technology enabling and heightening creative quality. The more unremarkable technology becomes, the more focus there is on the matter in hand. Behold the meritocracy!
