Violin Classes with Simon Hewitt Jones

I run weekly group violin classes most Thursdays at via Zoom (unless I am away for a concert or recording).

Start time: 7pm London time. This is usually 2pm EST / 11am PST (except during time change periods - check here)

Duration: Classes usually run for at least 60-90 minutes, and some run for much longer.

Location: All classes run on Zoom. Occasionally I run 'hybrid' classes in London and elsewhere. On these occasions you are welcome to attend in person.

Level: The beginning of each class is suitable for all levels. Classes generally increase in difficulty level throughout the session, and end up at a fairly advanced level by the end. You can stay as long as you wish, then drop out when the repertoire and activities become too complex!

If you're a first-time player or a beginner, please book 2x coaching cycles first before joining the Zoom classes, so that I can take you through the 'fundamentals', a 2-3 hour training in core skills.

Cost: Classes are FREE for anyone who has recently taken a personal coaching session. For everyone else, participation is by donation on a pay-what-you-can basis (minimum $1), with a suggested amount of £20/$25 per class, or £80/$100 per month.

Content: Each class is different, and based on the needs of the participants. Generally we will also explore a specific piece of repertoire, and a different technique. Requests are always welcome.

I generally draw from the curriculum that we developed for ViolinSchool, which is immensely comprehensive and covers essentially every technical topic required to get to an advanced level. I will usually share music in advance in the what's new section of this website, or on this page.
