After graduating from the Royal Academy of Music, I founded a teaching practice (latterly with my colleague David Worswick from the London Symphony Orchestra) at a studio in Palace Street in Westminster, London.
This venture spawned many related educational projects; from coaching the Aldeburgh Young Musicians to Curriculum Design for schools and teachers to Teacher Training at the Royal Irish Academy of Music and much much more.
The biggest project to emerge from that time was ViolinSchool, which I founded in 2012 and led for over 10 years. During this time we educated many thousands of learners, including adults and children of all ages and levels, both online and off. We ran many memorable public events too, including the Violin Orchestra.
We created many innovations in digital learning that have since become mainstream, not least live online classes (which we started via Zoom years before the pandemic made it normal!).
Post-pandemic, ViolinSchool evolved into an online education resource, which continues to produce unique music arrangements and backing tracks as well as hundreds of educational videos, and a series of Violin Coursebooks that I co-wrote with my aunt Caroline Lumsden.
Here's just a small sample of some of the educational videos from the ViolinSchool YouTube channel.
